Studio Sløyd
A design studio based in Oslo, Norway, founded by Mikkel Sommerschield Jørandstad and Herman Kathle Ødegaard.
They seek to create interesting and thoughtful objects across the design landscape, from self initiated exhibitions to collaborations with established brands. Their approach to design is inspired by the concept of ‘sløyd’ – educational wood-working taught in primary schools throughout Scandinavia, focusing on exploration and respecting the material in question.
The most essential and fun part of our process has been actual milling of 1:1 scale models, made on the CNC machine. There are shapes and techniques that are hard to make in any other way. Every detail matters, so using the right wood for the weight and finding the right tools for the radii became really important for the overall feel of the design.

We had a great time making models and bringing them to the Nedre Foss team – exploring the typology – discussing and fine-tuning the various shapes. Having a low threshold for discussion made it possible for us to design a broad range of shapes; arriving at something unique.
